List a need for someone you support
Giving121 lets caseworkers at charities, councils, schools, housing associations and NHS teams list one specific need for someone they work with, from £30 to £500. A private giver pays your organisation or the supplier for it. We check your organisation once, list a complete case within 2 working days, and the person never pays.
Who can sponsor?
An organisation that already works with the person and can check the need. In the pilot, that means:
Registered charities
Councils
Schools
Housing associations
NHS and other health teams
Get help form, sponsor view
What's needed?
Work boots, size 9
Price
£64.00
What will it help them do?
Start a warehouse job on Monday
Your organisation
Name of charity or council
Has the person agreed?
Yes, they've seen the wording
Send my request
What do we check about you?
We check each organisation once, within 5 working days of registering.
1
We look your organisation up on the Charity Commission register, Companies House or gov.uk.
2
We call you through your organisation's main number, not a number you give us.
After that, you can list needs for the people you work with. To list a need, use the Get help form and choose 'I'm a sponsor', or email info@giving121.com.
What can you list?
One specific item or cost, from £30 to £500.
A price link or a quote
What it will help the person do
The person's agreement to the wording
No cash
No debts or rent arrears
How long does listing take?
Once we have a complete request, the case is listed within 2 working days. Complete means the item, the price link or quote, what it's for and the person's agreement.
What do you confirm afterwards?
When the person has the item, send us a receipt or a photo of it. We forward it to the giver and mark the case as funded.
How does the money move?
The giver pays your organisation or the supplier
We put the giver and you in touch by email. You agree together how the item is bought and delivered.
Giving121 never holds the money
It goes from the giver to you or the shop. It never passes through us.
Never cash to the person
The money pays for the item on the listing, and nothing else.
One giver per case
No part-funding in the pilot. A case is either open or funded.
If it can't be delivered
The giver gets their money back (from you, or the shop if they paid it), or with their OK it goes to the same person's next listed need.
What about data protection?
We publish only what a giver needs to choose a case. Nothing goes live until the person has seen the wording and agreed to it.
Independent Check Ltd is responsible for this data (the data controller). Our privacy policy explains what we keep, for how long, and how to ask us to delete it.
A listing shows the item, the price, what it's for, the type of organisation that checked it and the county at most.
The person's name, photo, town and contact details are never shown.
Your organisation's name is shown only with your permission. Otherwise we say "a housing charity" or similar.
The giver never gets the person's details. Thank-you messages go through you, and only if the person wants to send one.
Register your organisation
It takes a couple of minutes. Use your work email so we can match it to your organisation.
Once you're checked, you can list a need with the item, the price and the person's agreement. To list a need, use the Get help form and choose 'I'm a sponsor', or email info@giving121.com.
There's a small listing fee. The sponsor pays it, or it's added to the giver's total. The person asking for help never pays. We'll tell you the amount when we call.
We'll reply within 1 working day and finish our check within 5 working days.
Questions sponsors ask
Does it cost our organisation anything?
There's a small listing fee. The sponsor pays it, or it's added to the giver's total. The person asking for help never pays. Ask us and we'll tell you the amount.
Can the person ask for help themselves?
Yes. They can fill in the Get help form and name you as their sponsor. We'll contact you to confirm the need before anything is listed.
Will our organisation's name be shown?
Only with your permission. Otherwise the listing says what kind of organisation checked it, like "a housing charity".
How is this different from a grant?
It isn't a grant. A private giver chooses to pay for one listed item. It can sit alongside grant funders like Buttle UK, or grants found through Turn2us, for small items that don't fit their criteria.
What if nobody funds the case?
We'll talk to you about what to do next. We can't promise every case will be funded. We're a new, small service, and we'll tell you honestly how it's going.
